Busload of innovation: Unitrans

Unitrans bus

UC Davis is a global leader in sustainable transportation, decreasing the size of its own campus carbon footprint and setting the standard for advanced transportation systems globally.

Take the environmentally friendly Unitrans bus system, which was founded in 1968 when the Associated Students of UC Davis purchased two vintage London double decker buses to operate on two routes. Since 1995, ASUCD Unitrans has built up a sustainable fleet of buses powered by a compressed natural gas fueling station on campus.

Unitrans also represents the most efficient mass transportation option in the Davis community. Today, the system provides public transportation service to the entire city with 49 buses on 15 routes, carrying over 3.5 million passengers per year (more than 20,000 on a typical day).
